The Copley: A Living Room Rooted in Craft

Step inside the Copley and the living room greets you with the same warmth the brick promised from the street. It’s a room that feels collected rather than decorated, where every surface has a reason to be there and the details reveal themselves the longer you stay. Natural light pours in through black-framed accordion doors that open to the covered porch, falling across a palette of soft whites, warm greige, and honeyed wood that keeps the space calm and inviting from morning to night.

Underfoot, white oak flooring is finished in a custom stain, a soft, muted tone that grounds the room without ever feeling heavy. Overhead, cedar beams carry that same custom stain across the ceiling, so floor and ceiling speak the same language and frame the room from top to bottom. The repetition is subtle, but it’s what makes the space feel so complete, as though the room was carved from a single piece of wood rather than assembled from many.

Flanking the fireplace, two custom niches are cut into the walls, their sweeping shape mimicking the opening that leads into the dining room so the architecture echoes itself from one space to the next. Inside, vertical paneling painted in Benjamin Moore Brandon Beige sets a warm backdrop for white oak shelves finished in Rubio Monocoat Oyster and mounted on brass brackets. Below, custom cabinets in the same Brandon Beige, topped in matching oak, tuck away everyday storage so the shelves above can stay styled and simple. Visual Comfort picture lights hang above each niche, washing the shelves in a soft glow at night and turning every styled piece into something worth a second look.

At the center of it all, the fireplace is framed by a custom cast stone surround, its clean, substantial profile carrying the same character as the cast surround at the front door. A dark stone face and herringbone firebox add depth, while an arched black mirror above draws the eye upward. Crowning the room, a Arteriors chandelier hangs from the center of the ceiling, its layered, textural form adding a sculptural moment that feels as much like art as it does lighting.
