The Ashmont: A Kitchen Built on Restraint

At the heart of the Ashmont, the kitchen centers on a custom plaster range hood that rises to the ceiling in a soft, hand-troweled finish, its arched niche framed by brass accents and open shelving. Taj Mahal quartzite covers every surface, from the island to the perimeter counters to the wall behind the range, so the same soft, warm-veined stone carries through the whole room instead of stopping at the counter’s edge.

Cabinetry throughout is painted in Benjamin Moore Natural Cream, a soft, warm neutral that pairs with sage-green cabinetry in the adjacent scullery for a layered, collected look. White oak elements, the island base and tall pantry cabinets, are finished in Rubio Vanilla, a stain that keeps the wood grain visible while softening its tone to sit comfortably alongside the cream cabinetry and quartzite.

Two black-and-gold cone pendants hang over the island, their contrast finish pulling the black hardware and brass fixtures throughout the kitchen into one cohesive palette. Appliances stay just as considered: a Jenn-Air range with dual ovens anchors the cooking wall, a microwave is built in and fully hidden below the counter, and a side-by-side refrigerator and dishwasher are both paneled to match the surrounding cabinetry, so nothing pulls focus from the room’s materials.

It’s a kitchen built on restraint, one hood, one stone, one wood tone underfoot, repeated with enough consistency that every detail feels intentional rather than added on.
