DESIGNING THE PERFECT KITCHEN LAYOUT
We want to take you behind the scenes of our latest project at 308 Wonderwood and shed light on a unique challenge we faced while designing the perfect kitchen layout. It’s not just about the finishes and fixtures; it’s about the thoughtful arrangement that makes a kitchen layout truly functional and visually appealing.
When it comes to laying out a kitchen, sometimes we encounter an unexpected conundrum – having more space on one side of the island than the other. This spacing issue presented itself during the design process at 308 Wonderwood. At first glance, one solution seemed apparent: extend the end of the island by two feet. However, this seemingly straightforward fix raised an issue regarding the alignment of the sink and range, which would no longer line up correctly.
We also had to consider the aesthetic symmetry of the island pendants. Ensuring symmetrical placement of the pendants relative to the sink and range became a priority. The design had to strike the delicate balance between functionality and visual appeal, without compromising on either. Having the island pendants, range, and sink line up is something really important to us in the kitchen.
We came up with a unique solution – the addition of an 18′ prep counter. While an extension of the island, it is distinct in material, contrasting the quartz island with a warm wooden surface. This addition not only provided the necessary length to fill the uneven space but also created a visually appealing contrast in textures and tones. It became a defining element that tied the design together seamlessly.
Our choice to add the prep counter wasn’t random; we really thought it through. We wanted to explain why we made this design decision to show how important it is to find creative solutions when faced with challenges. By including the prep counter, we fixed the problem of uneven space and also introduced an eye-catching element that adds character and uniqueness to the kitchen.
